The workshop will take place
Monday through Wednesday, 16-18 Octber 2006. These will be full working
days. Here is an overview. The detailed agenda is below.
Day 1
Review
chapters element by element (each parameter of each subdomain, e.g., sea ice extent and sea ice thickness), so that for every element or cryospheric
subdomain a definition we have a review of the current observing system capabilities, a quantitative account of its development and/or decay, and recommendations on technical matters pertaining to the element.
Day 2
Design a common approach to cryospheric observations, major views, issues of governance, etc.
Day 3
Discuss and revise the recommendations. Draft (or modify as appropriate) actions and the implementation plan.

Session 2:
Capabilities, Gaps, and Recommendations1
1For the
capabilities and recommendations session, all chapter lead authors should
present a summary of the recommendations that are currently the report. The breakout groups will discuss
these and the tables of observational capabilities and requirements starting
late in the first day and continuing through the second day.
2The breakout
groups must reach a consensus on capabilities and requirements.More importantly, they must finalize
the recommendations, including a high-level set of recommendations suitable
for an executive summary.Look
for common recommendations with the other subdomains. There should also be a group working
